The Lovett Memorial Library welcomes use by persons of all ages and the staff is available to assist them with use of library materials and services. The safety and well being of all ages and maintenance of our facility and atmosphere are high priority. Therefore, the following policies will be enforced.
Children in the Library are the responsibility of their parents/guardians at all times. Library staff cannot take legal responsibility for the care of an unattended child. It is mandatory that children age 10 or younger be accompanied and adequately supervised by a responsible person (parent, caregiver, or mature adolescent, age 12 years or older). Adequately supervised may mean that parent, caregiver, or mature adolescent, age 12 or older could be asked to be by the child’s side for the entire visit at the library.
Children over the age of 10 years may use the library unattended provided they are able to maintain proper library behavior.
The Lovett Memorial Library reserves the right to limit or ban the use of the library by children and adults who are infringing upon the rights of others by inappropriate behavior. If an adult or unattended child behaves in a disruptive manner, they will be asked to correct the behavior. If the behavior persists, library staff may, at their discretion, ask the individual to leave the library. Failure to comply may result in the law enforcement being called. The staff on duty shall decide whether or not behavior is disruptive and inappropriate.
No smoking or using other tobacco products within the Library
Soliciting, panhandling, and loitering are prohibited by City ordinance
Use of the library phone is limited to 5 minutes
Individuals under the influence of narcotics or alcohol will be requested to leave the library premises
If a person's personal hygiene is interfering with other's use of the library or library staff, they must leave and can come back when the situation is taken care of.
Library staff may, at their discretion, ask an individual or individuals to leave the library. Failure to comply may result in the law enforcement being called.
Removing Library materials without properly checking them out is prohibited.
The Librarian or Staff has the authority to ask any person or persons to cease any activity that is disturbing to other Patrons or Staff. Failure to comply with request could result in termination of privileges indefinitely.
A person or persons who have been convicted of any crime against the City or City property will be banned from use of the Library and Library Services.
There will be a $20.00 fee for returned checks and that person will be required to pay for library services and fines with cash or a money order.
VIOLATIONS OF THESE POLICIES ARE GROUNDS FOR SUSPENSION OF LIBRARY PRIVILEGES.
