In order that all members of the community may share equally in the use of library materials and services, the Library establishes; various loan periods, type and amount of borrowed materials, confidentiality, renewals, fines, charges for lost and damaged materials, and the guidelines for library cards.
Charging and Discharging
Loan Periods and Renewals:
Books, Magazines and Audio books will check out for two weeks. One renewal will be available unless another patron has requested the item. Videos/DVDs will check out for five days. Videos/DVDs will not be renewed or placed on hold. There is a one day grace period for books, magazines, audio books and video/DVD’s.
The first check out on a new card is limited to two items. After that, the library has no limit on books, magazines and audio books that may be checked out. A maximum of 5 Video/DVD’s may be checked out, per card. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) may be requested immediately after receiving a new library card.
Fines and Charges:
Fines for overdue books are .10¢ a day per book and magazines. Fines for overdue audio books are .50¢ a day per audio book. Fines for video/DVD are $1.00 a day per item. The maximum fine for books, audio books, and magazines is the cost of the item plus any late fees and postage fees incurred. Missing due date slips, missing barcodes and other will be subject to a charge at the librarian’s discretion. Lost items are charged at the retail cost of the items plus a $5.00 processing fee. Lost or damaged beyond repair video/DVD will be $25.00. Video/DVD’s that are returned to the library in need of repair or cleaning will have a $2.00 fee. Charges for lost or damaged ILL are dependent on the lending library’s charges and policies.
Notices for overdue items are sent out at 3 days, 9 days and 15 days. After 35 days if the item is still missing the patron will be sent a bill for the item/items.
Patrons with charges of $2.00 or higher, can no longer check out until such charges are paid or reduced to under $2.00. All fines must be cleared to use the computers.
Library cards are available for residents of McLean and surrounding area. A current photo ID and proof of residency will be required to receive a library card. The original library card is free. Replacement of library cards will be $2.00. Children under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign the application form. Children must be school age (5) to obtain their first library card. For person’s that does not have a Texas ID, a temporary card will be issued.Temporary library cards are limited to 2 items on the card at a time and are subject to the same fines and charges as a regular library card. Photo ID and proof of residency with applicants nameis required to obtain a temporary library card.
Library cards will be grouped by household. If one member of the grouped household is delinquent or has fees, then all cards in that household will be suspended or barred. Grouping will take place when an adult signs for a minor’s card and 2 or more people in the household has Library cards.
Persons, who have a valid current library card from a Harrington Library Consortium member library may check out using their home library card provided that the card has a completed recorded of identification and is not expired.
All patron records are confidential in nature. No information from these will be provided to other people without the permission of the patron.
